My Easter wishes for a long, hot summer seems to have gone awry!

In compensation I send you the "MAGIC CARPET"; my first kite.

THIS IS HOW IT WAS DONE

I started the construction of the sail for the MAGIC CARPET in November 2011.

The size of the sail was determined by the dimensions of a MAGIC SQUARE - and the number 9 appealed to me.
That meant cutting up the fabric in 9 inch squares.
I used the synthetic silk fabric left over from the flags of the CIRCLE OF HOPE.

The initial idea was to paint each square with signs and symbols from the TREE OF LIFE.  The fabric and the paint didn't work as I intended
making it necessary to come up with a different idea of introducing colour.  I decided to use a 'quilting' technique of 'patching' colours together.
The result is a sail resembling stained glass.

Next was the frame to support the sail.  I used green willow for its strength, flexibility and accessible in Abbotsbury.
I obtained a wonderful book on kite making for beginners from Amazon.   The directions were easy to follow.  Suggested materials I found in
my kitchen.
And so, my first kite was born.

The installation date took place on the 29th of May 2012 in my garden.

Hope you enjoy it.  Feedback will be most welcomed.
